writing

Soon, there will be a beautiful introduction written here. This short introduction is just to introduce a few of the current Works in Progress that I have been working on, including full-length novels, collections of short stories, and even a few that will direct you towards blog posts I have written elsewhere. I have only recently decided to begin taking my writing seriously and as a result, this will not be enough to describe what comes after.

Here are a few

Writing in Progress:

Travel Around the Galaxy (2018-present)

travelaroundthegalaxy.com/storytelling

Many of the best experiences from traveling stay with you forever. These memories are locked into your memories and in many ways, they become a part of you. All of my best/favourite travel stories are migrating towards my travel blog located at travelaroundthegalaxy.com

Here is a small selection of first-hand stories from travels around the world. What is life really like on the road?

[The mission was simple; we wanted to travel to the end of the world… ]

[I arrived in Africa by air, flying into Tangiers from Madrid, with one of the worst hangovers in my life… ]

[Most people just don’t move to Mexico for a few months to work at a brewery…]

[When we decided to start planning our trip to South America, the number one goal we set our sights on was a visit to Machu Picchu…]

[We just got back from our adventure around British Columbia and Alberta, where we explored the spectacular scenery of the Canadian Rocky Mountains…]

The Road to Vimy Ridge (2022)

Currently, this will be my first full-length novel, a project which I have just recently finished the first draft for. I have at least one re-write before even submitting it to my editor, so it seems likely

Amongst Canadians, Vimy Ridge is the most iconic battles of the first world war, receiving almost folklore like status in the collective memory of the country. This story will follow my personal journey, exploring the First World War journal of my great-grandfather, i’m hoping to unlock a missing chapter in our family history.

Sometime in the “near” future, I will be taking a trip to western Europe to visit some of the key battlefields from the war. There are many towns and attractions that he described in great detail.

After discovering my great-grandfathers war journal in 2015, I was able to map out his journey across Europe with the help of google maps and many great historic resources. One of the key components of this project is to follow in his footsteps and visiting the same places he did in his 4 years in France and Belgium.

This trip will take place primarily in northern France and southern Belgium. This is an ongoing project with lots of research still to do. I am currently in the process of re-imagining the first hand accounts of Percy (my great-grandfather) who served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1915 until 1919. With the help of many different online resources, this has been an exhilarating journey. Currently in the process of writing a novel based his great war diary.

You can visit The Road to Vimy Ridge for more information. Stay tuned!

Exit Stamps (2022)

Backpacking isn’t always glamorous and it isn’t always fun. If you’re looking for relaxation, then the term you’re looking for is vacation. They’re great too, and are usually well deserved, especially after going on one of these trips. Traveling is one of the most rewarding things you can do with your life. The highest highs and the lowest lows.

What if you could only tell the story of traveling through the pages of your passports?

Crossing borders is definitely one of the most stressful and least glamorous parts of traveling, especially when you’re backpacking. Sometimes these events last minutes and are hardly worth mentioning again. Sometimes this means getting pulled off the train in the middle of the night by the army or sleeping on the concrete outside of a bus with a pack of dogs for protection.

Hopefully, that teaser was enough to gain your interest… this novel is an ongoing project, and hopefully coming soon.

This is not a Guide Book (2022)

Travel sometimes takes you to the most beautiful places you’ve ever seen. Sometimes it gets you into trouble. The highs and lows of travel turn into the best stories. When two best friends decide they want to travel the world and aren’t afraid of anything, things usually work out. We both lived to tell the stories, so how bad could it be?

What happens when you try to cross the border without a visa? Well, it depends on what country you’re trying to get into. For us, it meant being detained, interrogated, and eventually deported. The problem was, we actually didn’t know where we were and no one else did either.

Or what happens when you fall asleep on a train in India and wake up 6 or 7 hours from where you had intended to go?

You’re going to have to read to find out. This collection of short stories have already been lived and re-told many times, but now they’re finding a place in print.
