Blog: Hello Peru

(Originally hosted on the website www.smartamerican.com)

Well, somehow or another i’m in Peru. We managed to resist “Messin with Texas” during our 3 and a half hour stopover in Dallas/Fort Worth, (to our surprise it was rainy and cold – not the sort of thing i expect from Texas, but half the fun of travelling is having your expectations blown away). Stepping out of an air conditioned airport into the midnight desert heat of Lima was a bit of a shock, like walking into a sauna, but over the last 2 days we´ve been able to get used to it. We have basically been taking it easy thus far, checking out a few sights, and mostly just enjoying the warmer climate (ie: haw haw suckers). We met a student from Lima – Carlos – today who wanted to work on his English, and with the very little Spanish that Stewart and I know, were able to communicate enough to become Amigos. Tomorrow we are meeting him in the main square, and he’s going to show us the best place to surf in Lima. Then its back to the airport to catch our flight to La Paz, Bolivia, from which we will get on the first possible bus to Oruru, and arrive just in time to celebrate Carnival. Hopefully all these well made plans work out, but you never quite know what will happen on the road… Anyways, catch you on the flip side.
