Blog: A change of Direction.

Lome, Togo.

Well, its been a while since anyone has had a chance to update, due to absolute laziness (we’re on vacation, its Africa, and internet is less abundant than in the Western World – enough excuses’?) but mainly due to the fact that we’ve been moving lots in the last few weeks. We’re in Lome, Togo at an internet cafe/bar/pet store, and we’ll be here for a day or two waiting for our Ghana visas to be completed.

But lots has changed. Rufus, the “organizer” of our overland Africa trip – Tangier to Cape Town – took off from Ougadougou, Burkina Faso to return to Siberia, to take care of some pressing personal matters. This left Barney – his brother – in charge, but within a week he was fed up with the trip and decided to fly back to England from Benin. The bus is sold and we took our minuscule compensation – Porto Novo is a long ways from Cape Town – and headed West. We’ve spent the last week cruising the southern coast, through Benin and now into Togo on our way to Ghana, where our plans are a little less set now. We we’re supposed to be driving through Nigeria and Cameroon on our way down to South Africa right now. Maybe its time to up the ante again. Im sure a best of 7 Paper-Rock-Scissors of epic proportions is in order; our options are limitless (Well, flying straight to the heart of the Congo might not be such a good idea, either would be walking a straight line to Somalia, or trying to see how long we can survive in the Sahara without food or water…. but you get the idea). Chances are we’re staying in Africa, and according to most people, coming here in the first place was a “bad” idea, so there should be some entertainment to come. So stay tuned. Already, there’s lots of stories building up in our heads; loads of Pictures and Video waiting patiently on our memory cards; multiple podcasts backing up, waiting for a reliable internet cafe to upload from; and a burning desire to keep traveling. Wish us luck.
